Critical Reflection on Module Learning

Understanding that the course was focused on communication, I set goals to achieve for myself. This included improving my stage confidence, my communication skills both verbal and non-verbal, and my writing skills.

Over the course of 13 weeks, the in-class activity has allowed me to improve my public speaking. As shown in the final group presentation, I now feel more natural and confident presenting.

We were taught on a myriad of skills from verbal to non-verbal communication and how emotions play a crucial role during conversations. For example, the lesson on expressing emotions showcased a video to better empathise with others instead of painting a silver lining. In addition, we learnt to pay attention to verbal and non-verbal cues while grasping the content of the conversation. Through the daily interactions with friends and family, I was able to utilise the techniques. After some time, I noticed an improvement in my listening skills while subconsciously paying attention to the speaker’s body language, making communication with others more effective.

The assignments on WordPress provided a venue for me to practice my writing. This included the continuous learning portfolio, formal email, reflections, and the case study abstract. Progressively with the guidance from Dr Uma and peers, there was an improvement to convey my message across while writing in a concise manner. In comparison to my writing skills prior to this course, I feel a sense of achievement as I am now able to confidently convey my intention through the written language.

However, I believe there is potential for improvement. With that in mind, I plan to utilise WordPress as a venue to practice sharing my reflections in a coherent and concise manner. Additionally, through the daily interaction with my peers to further utilise the communication and listening skills that were taught.
